This easy hot chocolate recipe can be prepared in less than five minutes and it becomes a drink perfect for winter, warming up your body. It is not so "fancy"-as we use just 2 ingredients and we warm it up in the microwave, but you can literally put anything you like-more chocolate, cream, a bit pepper and cinnamon for that little kick, decorating your cup like they do in restaurants...
Ingredients (1 person)
- 1 cup of milk
- Chocolate of your choice (this will also affect your drink's colour.) about 40 grams (half of a Milka bar.)
You basically warm up your milk in the microwave for a minute, add chocolate and mix well. Enjoy your -very- basic cup of hot chocolate.
Fancy Hot Cocoa-as we use cocoa instead of chocolate
If the first recipe is too basic for you, here is the fancy hot "cocoa"-as we use cocoa powder instead of chocolate. The last 4 ingredients are totally optional but it goes from "fancy" to "oh my god" level and it adds that "new year-winter"ish theme to you hot chocolate.
Ingredients (1 person)
- 1 cup of milk
- 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons of sugar (you can adjust it to your taste)
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- Marshmallows
- Whipping cream
- Pretzels
- Peppermint candies
Instructions
- Put a pot on low heat.
- Add the milk and slowly simmer-not boil!
- When some steam comes from it and you think it's hot, add cocoa powder, sugar and vanilla extract. Mix well until combined and pour it into a cup.
Now your basic fancy hot cocoa is ready, but if you do it with optional ingredients, process continues:
- Add two marshmallows (or as many as it fits!), put some whipping cream on top, decorate with pretzels, peppermint candies and even hot fudge, chocolate or caramel sauce!
